ARTIST STATEMENT


I am a dance performer and creator who craves highly physical, technical, and spontaneous movement. My movement challenges my own perceived possibilities of my body as it relates to gravity, articulation, expansion, opposition, and trust. Whenever I experience movement, I find it necessary to integrate the element of surprise upon myself; which makes it just as unpredictable to see how my body will problem-solve given challenges. Because I value the fleeting nature of movement, an improvisational approach is crucial in the experience in doing of the movement. The desire to cultivate community and to encourage a sense of kinesthetic empathy is at the forefront of the intention of experiencing movement. I achieve a genuine connection between the audience and myself through vulnerability and honesty that is shown through my willingness to be seen. I draw inspiration from those I share the space with which allows my movement to be malleable and honest. As a creative facilitator, I enjoy the integration of quirky and dramatic elements to enhance the work at large, which is a direct reflection of my personality and approach to life.
